The teardrop shaped tropical island of Sri Lanka is undoubtedly one of the yet unspoiled gems of Asia. The roads in Sri Lanka snake through dense jungle, green tea plantations, along drifting clouds on the mountain passes in the central highlands and palm frigged beaches.

It’s an absolute pleasuring riding around Sri Lanka and the diversity of this trip gives you something new everyday.
Transfer to the fishing town of Negombo. Upon arrival at the International Airport north of Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, the participants will be escorted to the hotel in the small fishing town of Negombo, approximately 20 km north of the Airport. Negombo is known as “little Rome” because of its many churches and its catholic inhabitants. Here you are will rest and enjoy a tranquil afternoon at the beach, by the poolside or unwind at one of the many good restaurants and cafes in town. Early in the evening all the participants meet with the motorcycle guide for a briefing and for the welcome dinner.
Day 2: Our First Day on the Road – Negombo to Habarana
This is our first day of riding and we will take time out to get to know the motor bikes before we start riding towards the central part of the Island. The way the traffic moves and the tropical scenery is unknown to first time visitors, so we will do plenty of stops to enjoy the view of the paddy fields and plantations with coconut and banana palm trees. In the late afternoon we will arrive at out hotel at Habarana and relax by the pool side or explore the local area.

Day 3: Towards the East Coast of SriLanka – Habarana to Trincomalee
After breakfast we will ride to the town of Trincomalee, located on the Eastern Coast line of Sri Lanka. Try your luck and spot a wild elephant on the road side as we ride along large water reservoirs and thick dense jungle. We will spend the night at a hotel near the beach just north of Trincomalee town and upon arrival at the hotel one can enjoy a much needed dip in the Indian Ocean.
Riding: 120 km
Day 4: Southward bound – Trincomalee to Mahiyanganaya
We ride south today until we reach the small town of Mahayanganaya which is surrounded by irrigated green rice paddies and palm trees. This area of Sri Lanka is populated by the indigenous peoples, the Veddah people.
Riding: 240 km
Day 5: Exploring Mahiyanganaya
We will be spending two nights at our hotel in Mahiyanganaya and this day is dedicated to exploring the local area and get a glipmpse of the old fasion farming life along the small and narrow country lanes. There will be plenty of changes for photographing, sampling local fruits, talking with local villagers and to tast the local tea. In the afternoon we visit a small tribal village, where we will see how the indigenous people in Sri Lanka live.
Day 6: Mahiyangana to Knuckles
Ride through the tea plantations in the Central High Land. Optional offroad riding in the Knuckles mountains.
After we have left the hotel in Mahayangaya the road gets more and more winding as we approach the Knuckles Mountain Rang and the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. The air gets cooler and after a few hours the coconut and banana palm trees is replaced by green tea plantations, with tea bushes in straight lines. The landscape is dotted with Tamil Sri Lankans picking the bright green buds of the dark tea bushes. There is plenty of opportunity to stop and take pictures and enjoy the scenery.

Day 7: Towards the Royal city of Kandy
In the morning we will enjoy the view of the mountains and the clouds rolling by, before we get on to our motor cycles and ride to the next destination: The charming royal city of Kandy. Here lived the last of the Sri Lankan kings before the island was colonized – first by the Portuguese and later by the British. We will take a walk around the beautiful lake side in the Kandy city where Buddhist temples are reflected in the lake.

Day 8: Winding mountain roads and magnificent vistas – Kandy to Haputale
The ride this day offers spectacular scenery in the Central Highlands. The winding road leads through miles of green tea plantations and some stretches of pine forest. We will pass old English “hill stations”: Small towns in the cool hills where the British colonial administrations settled. We will end the tour in the small town of Haputale about 1100 meters above sea level.

Day 9: From the Mountains to the Jungle – Haputale to Tissamaharama
Our first stop this morning is a view point named Lipton’s Seat 1950 meters above sea level, with a spectacular view of the plains below. From Haputale we will start descending towards the plains at the Southern coastline and on the way we will pass by large water falls. At the end of the day we will be riding through the jungle in Yala National Park, where one might spot some of the wildlife.

Day 10: Jeep safari – Yala Nationalpark to Mirissa Beach
Rise and shine for an early morning jeep safari at Yala National Park where we will look out for leopards, bears and wild elephants while the sun rises above the jungle. After the safari we will ride along the Southern coast line to the small beach town of Mirissa, where we can enjoy a cocktail or a cold beer on the beach while watching the sunset.
Riding: 125 km
Day 11: At Mirissa Beach – optional diving, snokling and whale whatching
A well earned day of rest at one of Sri Lanka’s best beaches at the small town of Mirissa with optional whale watching, scuba diving, snorkeling or surfing. There is also the option of riding to the old Dutch heritage fortress in the town of Galle and back. Galle is located about 35 km west of Mirissa.
Day 12: From the coast to the hills – Mirissa Beach to Bopath Ella
We will have a scenic ride in front of us this day, as we move from the coast to the hills, through tea plantations and farm land. In the late afternoon we arrive at the magnificent waterfall, Bopath Fall, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Riding: 180 km
Day 13: Bopath Ella and back to Negombo
The ride starts in the hills, but as we approach Negombo the landscape becomes more plain. Upon arrival at the hotel we will meet up for a farewell dinner and toast to a great motor cycle journey through Sri Lanka.

Day 14: Farewell for now
Breakfast is served at the hotel. Remember to be checked out from the rooms no later than 12 pm on this day. Depart for the International airport.

We will be riding Honda Baja 250 cc and Honda XR motor cycles on this tour. Honda SL 230cc and Honda LA Custom is also available for people who prefer a lower bike. There are also a couple of upgrade options for those with a preference – we suggest an upgrade if you’re riding with a pillion. Please see the price tab.
You’ll have a mechanic with the group to look after your bike for the duration of your journey and your motorcycle guide will not only lead the way, but also make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need.
